Sophomore guard Romain Martin finished 21 points and senior guard Julio Anthony added 12 off the bench, the lone Panthers to score in double figures.

North Dakota State took an early 28-17 lead, but the two teams were tied at 34 going into halftime. Junior forward Mike Schachtner, a preseason First-Team All Horizon League choice, led the Phoenix with 24 points. Numbers to remember

400. wins Green Bay will have as a Division I program with a win tonight.

138. points Eastern senior Bobby Catchings needs to reach 1,000 career points.

86. points Green Bay junior Mike Schachtner needs to reach 1,000 career points.

2. former Marquette players on Green Bay head coach Todd Kowalczyk’s staff. Assistant coaches Brian Wardle, 2001 graduate, and Jon Harris, 2002 graduate, played for the Golden Eagles when Kowalczyk was an assistant there under Tom Crean.

1 . win Eastern has in 11 games on the road against non-conference opponents in Miller’s three years. The Panthers lone win came during the 2005-06 season when Eastern defeated Missouri-Kansas City 72-67.

Three key points to watch for

1. Turnover prone

– The Panthers have turned the ball over 18 times in each of their last three games, which have all resulted in a loss. Junior Mike Robinson has started the past two games at the point guard spot in place of senior Julio Anthony. Anthony has the slight edge, committing four turnovers in the two games he started, while Robinson has seven in the two he’s started.

Eastern faces a better basketball team in Green Bay than it faced Saturday night against Arkansas State. The Panthers inability to take care of their offensive possessions and handle Green Bay’s pressure will determine whether this game is close or not.

“For us, I think they are probably the best team we’ve played at this point,” Miller said.

2. Road tested

– Eastern is in the midst of long bus rides and early morning arrivals back in Charleston during its three-week road trip, which features five games away from Lantz Arena.

The Panthers arrived back in Charleston about 3 a.m. Sunday morning after their loss to Arkansas State, Miller said.

Eastern then had Sunday off, but practiced at 6:30 a.m. Monday before leaving for Green Bay at noon.

The team will arrive back in Charleston about 3 a.m. Wednesday morning and practice Wednesday afternoon, Miller said.

Eastern will then have an early morning practice Thursday morning before leaving early Thursday afternoon for Iowa City.

“If we can establish the right habits and play the way we need to play, this will help us,” Miller said. “It’s just the way it kind of worked out. We’ve got to find a way to get through it.”

3. Point of emphasis

– The Panthers have given up an average of 71 points in their three games against Division I opponents this season. Last year, Eastern allowed an average of 66.3 points per game.

It is one of three areas, along with rebounding and turnovers, that Miller said he is emphasizing coming into tonight’s game.

The Phoenix start four players that are 6-foot-5 or taller. Forward Terry Evans, at 6 feet, 5 inches, could pose the biggest match-up problem. Evans is an athletic forward who thrives on his athleticism and ability to get to the basket. Look for Eastern to throw in the occasional zone to stop what Miller calls a “high execution team.”

“The thing about Green bay is they run so many different actions against you,” he said. “Everyone can post; everyone can dribble and score.”
