Greeks, ghosts and goblins: Oh My!

Halloween night for Greeks will be one with ghosts and ghouls.

They will have their annual Greeks, Ghosts and Goblins event for community children.

An array of free Halloween festivities will be in Greek Court on Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Spooky activities and a haunted house will provide fun for children who attend.

The haunted house will be in the National Pan-Hellenic Council building behind the Greek Court round.

A Halloween carnival with pumpkin painting, Halloween Twister, a mummy wrap relay, and Bozo Buckets will take place in Greek Court.

The chapters decorated their porches and chapter rooms for the holiday and will pass out candy to the children. Members will wear costumes.

The three Greek councils – Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council and NPHC – along with Lambda Alpha Delta and Greek Court Council will sponsor the event.

The Education Scholars, a group to promote education majors on campus, are also helping.

Each participating organization was asked to donate a different type of candy to ensure a variety, said Jeff Traub, junior finance major and co-chairman of the Greeks, Ghosts and Goblins committee.

Amanda Raz, senior special education and art education major, helped organize the event with Traub.

“It is a safe environment for the kids in the community,” she said. “And it is a good thing for the people in the community to meet the Greeks at EIU.”

Keanna Robinson, economic graduate student and president of the Eastern Student Parent Association, said the event would be convenient for students with children.

“It’s close to home and right on campus, so there’s more security,” Robinson said.

Raz said the activities would help the Greeks project their name into the Charleston community.

“I think any time you can bring the community to the campus is a great idea,” Raz said. “What better time to do that than at a holiday like Halloween? (It lets people) see not only what the residential life is like, but what the Greek life is, also.”
