Senate seeks permission for survey
Students might be given a survey in the near future asking how much they know about where their student fees and tuition money goes.
At tonight’s Student Senate meeting, the senate will vote to approve a survey to be given out. Any survey given to the study body must be approved within the university and Student Government.
“It’s not actually any new legislation about student tuition and fees, we’re just getting permission to give out the survey,” said Student Senate member Isaac Sandidge.
The Student Senate will also vote on the $170 proposal for One Campus, One Community, which is a Charleston cleanup and recycling event proposed for Saturday.
If approved, students who volunteer for the event will be provided with doughnuts and orange juice Saturday morning before helping pick up trash around the community.
Student Body President Cole Rogers encouraged senate members throughout the week to participate.
“As student representatives, you need to be out there in the community,” he said. “It is a priority to come out and help clean up.”
Also a proposal to pay for a pizza dinner for President Bill Perry’s inauguration on Nov. 7 will be introduced.
The Apportionment Board approved the $286.08 proposal at its Oct. 18 meeting.
Senate Student Speaker Adam Martinelli also announced that the Student Government Web site is being updated this week.
The Student Government has employed Tyler Bartholomew, a Web designer for Orange Piranha, to help redesign the Web site.
Orange Piranha is a Web design and hosting company that has mostly done Web site construction for small businesses.
The Student Senate meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the Arcola/Tuscola Room in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.
