AB approves Homecoming funding

The Apportionment Board has approved an additional $12,442 for the 2007 Homecoming week.

Homecoming coordinator Brian Allen presented his proposal for Homecoming at Thursday night’s AB meeting.

This year’s theme will be “Lights, Camera, Action,” a Hollywood theme.

The approved money for Homecoming week, which is taking place October 15 to 21, will be used to pay for promotions, rental of the Will Rogers Theater, family activities, a limousine contest, a dunk tank, giveaways and prizes, and a pep rally featuring actor Efren Ramirez, who played Pedro from the movie “Napoleon Dynamite.”

Allen wants to get more students, residence halls, registered student organizations and people from the community involved in this year’s Homecoming. Among the ways Charleston is showing support for Homecoming is by painting windows of business establishments blue for the week.

“A lot of the money is going into publicity because people need to know what’s going on,” Allen said. “In previous years, we’ve had some students not even be aware that Homecoming was going on, so we gotta go that extra mile to get the community and campus involved.”

He said he hopes all students can enjoy being at Eastern after participating in Homecoming.

Residence halls and organizations choosing to participate in Homecoming week can choose any actor, movie or time period as a sub-theme.

Leah Pietraszewski, student vice president for business affairs, was pleased with this year’s Homecoming budget.

“Last year, (the Homecoming committee) asked for a bit more money,” Pietraszewski said. “This year, they did a good job of budgeting.”

With AB approving the funds, the proposal now moves to Student Senate, where it also needs to be approved.

AB will not hold a meeting next week because of fall break. The next meeting is tentatively set for Oct. 18.
