Greek informational forum set
Interested in going Greek, but not sure what chapter to join? What does a service fraternity do or how does a specialized sorority for a particular major work? Which groups have a chapter house that could provide potential living for the future?
The Greek Forum Informational Program will provide the answers. The forum will take place today in the Grand Ballroom of Martin Luther King Jr. Union from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This event is open to all students that have an interest in Greek life, but do not know where to find information.
Senior psychology major Kate Geyer and Sigma Sigma Sigma member for two years said the forum is valuable for students interested in Greek life who may be too shy to approach the members otherwise.
“Even though there was ‘Quakin’ in the Quad’ and other events we were out to welcome everyone at, I know it can be intimidating talking to a big group of girls,” said Geyer.
The event is an “open house” style forum, sponsored by each of the 27 Greek chapters, under the three Greek councils: the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inter-fraternity Council, and the Pan-Hellenic Council.
Each of the booths will include pictures and videos of their past events, as well as information on the different charities and organizations that are involved with each chapter. Chapter requirements will also be provided at each booth.
Geyer worked the informational in the fall semester last year and created the video for her sorority. She said she enjoyed watching the other sororities’ and fraternities’ videos.
“It was interesting to find out the history of each; how they got to Eastern,” said Geyer. She also enjoyed finding out more about what the other groups were involved in on campus.
Each booth will have chapter members available for any questions students may have about the chapter.
Geyer said the forum also serves as an unofficial start to “Rush” recruitment, a time when prospective pledges investigate what the Greek system is all about. Actual “Rush” is Sept. 6 to 9.
