Panther Golfer Anthony Imburgia was awarded a postgraduate scholarship on Tuesday from the NCAA. The NCAA made the announcement on Tuesday that 58 postgradute scholarships of $7,500 each were given to 29 male and 29 female student-athletes at various NCAA school. This recent honor comes only weeks after earning CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine first team Academic All-American honors. In order to qualify for a postgraduate scholarship from the NCAA, a student-athlete must maintain a grade-point average of at least 3.200 (on a 4.000 scale) or its equivalent and must have excelled as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which they were nominated. The student-athlete must also be planning to continue their education beyond their baccalaureate degree. Imburgia earned a 4.00 GPA this past semester and plans to attend dental school in July.

Dan Strackeljahn, senior track and field athlete, was awarded Academic All-America honors by CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine on Tuesday. The Highland, Ill. native became the third Panther athlete to achieve the distinction this year. During his senior season at Eastern, Strackeljahn was team captain and a middle distance runn for the 2007 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field champions. In May, he graduated with a 3.91 GPA and a degree in career and technology education. Strackeljahn was also named Indoor Male Track Athlete of the Year in the OVC for 2007 and was also named one of six OVC Scholar=Athletes of the Year in 2006.

Senior track athlete Nicole Marczewski was named a third team Academic All-American by CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine on Wednesday. Marczewski is now the fourth EIU athlete to earn the distinction this year. The Coal City, Ill. native was team captian and jumper during her senior season with the Panthers and helped lead them to their first OVC Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field titles in 2007. In May she graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences and a perfect 4.00 GPA. She later was a recipient of a 2007 OVC/HCA Post-Graduate Scholarship.
