Eastern women’s tennis is forming a trend with close matches, albeit a harmful one.

The Panthers lost 4-3 against Northern Iowa Saturday afternoon. This is their third time this season losing by one point.

Eastern started the meet by losing the doubles point as all three doubles teams lost.

This included the No. 1 doubles team consisting of sophomore Natalie Martin and freshman Hayley Homburg, losing 8-1.

This loss came just a week after the pair had been ranked No. 56 in the nation.

During singles, the Panthers were able to start off by taking the No. 1 and No. 2 matches as junior Sandra Sasidharan won her match 6-3, 6-4, and Martin won 6-3, 6-2.

Northern Iowa took the No. 3 and No. 4 matches, beating senior Madina Mambetova at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2 and junior Stephanie Harmazy 6-4, 7-5

Homburg was able to tie the meet up at three matches each as she beat her opponent at the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 5-7 and 10-2. This was the only match of the afternoon to go into third set.

UNI, in the final match of the afternoon, was able to defeat freshman Annie Munch at the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-0.
