Student senate plays catch up
It will be a night of presentations for Student Government.
At tonight’s Student Senate meeting, members who attended the Illinois Board of Higher Education-Student Advisory Committee meeting held Feb. 2-3 at Lake Land College in Mattoon will present what happened.
Issues discussed at the meeting included the under-funding of Illinois veteran tuition waivers, student debt and four-year graduation.
Delegates from public, private and community colleges attend IBHE-SAC meetings.
The student-related issues that are discussed are then presented to IBHE, where there is a student-voting member.
The presentation was scheduled for last week’s meeting, but the meeting was canceled because of inclement weather.
The other presentation is from Facilities Planning and Management on what they do.
The meeting will include a question and answer session after the presentation, said Cathy Kimball, administrative aid for Facilities Planning and Management.
Presentations have already been given to Staff Senate and the Council of Chairs, she said.
The senate plans to vote on the consent agenda at tonight’s meeting. No other votes are scheduled.
“We have so many people that want to come present right now that it will probably be a pretty long meeting without legislation,” said Student Senate Speaker Jeff Lange.
Student Senate meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the Arcola-Tuscola Room in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.
