UB gets the Goo
University Board is in the process of finalizing contracts with The Goo Goo Dolls.
If the contracts are finalized, the band will be performing at Eastern on March 4, for the spring concert.
“Everything is still pending and if the contracts are finalized, then yes, The Goo Goo Dolls will be here,” said Mallory Taylor, UB concert chair.
Although it has not been finalized, The Goo Goo Dolls have listed on its Web site, www.googoodolls.com that the band will perform at Eastern on the scheduled date.
UB hopes to formally announce this week that the band will perform at Eastern, but cannot do so until there is a written agreement.
“Things are looking good,” Taylor said. “If everything goes according to plan, tickets will go on sale to Eastern students Jan. 16.”
Tickets would cost $12 for students and $17 for the general public.
If The Goo Goo Dolls do come to Eastern, Taylor is excited with the choice and thinks that students will be too.
“They (the band) have had so many hits and have been around for a long time,” she said.
Since forming in 1986, the band has released eight records.
Original line-up for The Goo Goo Dolls was Johnny Rzeznik, Robby Takac and George Tutuska. Tutuska left the band in 1994 and Mike Malinin joined the group shortly after.
Augustana will open for The Goo Goo Dolls if contracts are finalized. UB and its agent have been working for about six to eight weeks on finalizing the band.
UB has completed student surveys and worked with the athletic department on dates that Lantz Arena will be available before it had bands in mind. Once UB got the dates, its agent checked tour dates of bands.
