Confirmed death in Greek Court
There has been a death at one of Eastern’s fraternity houses.
Mark Apa, a 20-year-old finance major from Downers Grove, was found dead in his room at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house, said Vicki Woodard, director of communications for the university.
Eastern President Lou Hencken confirmed that a death did occur Saturday in Greek Court, but stressed that no foul play was suspected.
Hencken said that Apa’s parents had been notified.
Vice President for Student Affairs Daniel Nadler and Vice President for External Relations Jill Nilsen were on campus dealing with the situation, said Hencken.
Coles County Coronor Michael C. Nichols confirmed the death of an Eastern student Saturday.
“It was a 20-year-old male,” said Nichols. “It happened on campus in Greek Court.”
At this time, funeral arrangements are incomplete, said Woodard.
“The University extends its deepest condolences to the Apa family,” said Woodard.
The Pikes had no comment at this time.
