Senate still debating UB allocation
If University Board plans to bring Jody Sweetin from “Full House” to Eastern, Student Senate needs to give them the green light.
At tonight’s Student Senate meeting a $20,000 proposed allocation to UB will be voted on.
UB plans to bring more prominent speakers to campus with the allocation.
The Spotlight Series would consist of more well-known speakers, such as Sweetin. Cast members from the FX show “Black. White.” are also being considered.
Controversial topics, including the war in Iraq, are being considered for the Crossfire Series. These speakers would create audience interaction in a debate-style lecture.
A lecture called “Inside Iraq” is one of the options for this series.
Debate over the allocation has been taking place since the last meeting, said Student Senate Speaker Kent Ohms.
“Senators have been talking about through the week,” he said. “Hopefully, they have gone out and talked to students and gotten a good opinion.”
Another proposal is asking for $964.84 to send eight people to the Illinois Board of Higher Education Student Advisory Committee meeting in December at the University of Chicago. The money would cover gas and two hotel rooms for two nights.
The committee meets every two months at a different Illinois college or university to discuss higher education, said Executive Vice President Amanda Raz.
It is also a time for Eastern to show what it is doing and what other schools are doing, she said.
Student Senate meets at 7 p.m. in the Arcola/Tuscola Room in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.
