Why should you get the HPV shots?
“There’s no reason not to,” said Dr. Drew Pinsky who is famous for his radio and television show “Loveline.”
Pinsky is adamant about the shots. He had a booth at the College Media Adviser’s national journalism convention on Oct. 26 to promote the vaccination and share his knowledge about the virus.
The series of shots is usually offered for $600. Eastern’s Health Service offers the three shots for $120 to 130.
There aren’t any side effects from the shots, he said, so “why wouldn’t you get it?”
Even if a woman is celibate, she can still get this form of cancer if she isn’t vaccinated. The optimal age for a female to get the vaccination is 12, but women of all ages can still benefit.
Pinsky said that even if he were a single, 35-year-old woman, he would still get the shot.
Although he was in St. Louis, Pinsky said he has heard of Eastern. He has also spoken to students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, and Northwestern University in Evanston.
Pinsky said college-age people are his favorite audience.
