Cards clinch World Series

No dancers were found on the dance floor Friday night at the Panther Paw. Instead all eyes were affixed on Game 5 of The World Series: the St. Louis Cardinals versus the Detroit Tigers. People dressed in red Cardinal jerseys cheered loudly, “Lets go Cardinals, Let’s go Cardinals!”

After the final pitch that clenched the series for the Cardinals, fans burst into cheers, screams and hugging.

“I feel so good I’m going to take off my pants and run around the street screaming, ‘Go Cards,” said Ryan Cassell, a junior communication studies major.

There were diehard fans, but many were there for the love of the game. David Sevoe, a father from Bradley, watched the game with his son, the bartender.

“I like to watch any game that you can see the enthusiasm if the crowd,” he said. “There’s obviously a lot of Cardinals fans here. I’m glad to see the Cardinals win over Detroit. It keeps it in the Midwest.”

Whitney Edwards, a graduate accounting student, bragged about the Cardinals.

“(The game went) the way it should have gone,” she said. “Everybody knew the Cardinals were going to win anyway.”

Her friend, Steve Cummins, a senior history major, replied, “That’s a very cocky attitude.”

Edwards just laughed.

Kyle Schartz, a senior physical education major who was dressed as a shower for Halloween, commented on what Detroit was missing.

“They were making errors. Game 5: the starting pitcher threw a wild to third base, and scored runs and they never recovered,” Schartz said.

Both the Cardinals and White Sox have won the World Series.

Rusty Koenig, a senior physical education major, felt left out.

“The Sox and Cards have won, and I’m a lonely Cubs fan,” he said. “I guess there’s always next year though.”

Many fans pointed out why the Cardinals won.

“The game was amazing. Cards Rule!” yelled Justin Barrow, a senior communication studies major dressed in a Cardinals jersey. “It was our year even though they said it wasn’t our year. Weaver pitched the game of his life tonight.

“The Cardinals are world champions, baby.”
