Concert tickets not going fast

The University Board has sold just 130 tickets for the Spring Concert featuring country act Emerson Drive.

“We’re somewhat disappointed, but we might get a big rush,” said Ceci Brinker, director of Student Life at Eastern. “Regardless, they’ll put on a good show.”

Mallory Taylor, a junior marketing major and University board concert committee member, said that the University Board has been putting up flyers and running ads in local newspapers and radio stations to get the word out about the concert. The concert committee also told students about the concert using the Internet.

“I joined country music facebook groups and put messages on their walls to spread the word,” said Taylor.

Taylor believes the slow ticket sales can be attributed to another concert being in Charleston on Saturday and the fact that Emerson Drive has several other concerts scheduled for the area in the month of April.

“Other schools within a few hours of here have booked them in the month of April, including ISU and Bradley University in Peoria,” said Taylor. “This means people that might have come here are going to go to concerts closer to them.”

The concert committee booked Emerson Drive after seeing them at the National Association for Campus Activities in October. The University Board participates in block booking through NACA, which means they team up with other schools to book dates in their geographical region in order to get a discounted price for the acts.

“We booked them first but how the business runs is their agent lets other schools know they have those dates in the area,” said Taylor.

Emerson Drive with special guest Ryan Shupp and the Rubber Band will perform at Lantz Arena, April 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the ticket office and are $14 for EIU students, $18 for the general public.
