RHA votes on new treasurer

The Residence Hall Association elected its executive board treasurer for the 2006-2007 school year on Thursday.

Last night’s voting was a continuation from last week’s meeting where an insufficient number of voters delayed the process. Besides the election, other issues were also settled.

Scott Frystak, a sophomore Geology major, will serve as the RHA treasurer for the 2006-2007 school year. He won the position by defeating another runner-up and is currently a member on Taylor Hall’s improvement chair.

Frystak said one of his main goals is to keep all of RHA’s finances organized by working with all the residence halls.

“I’ll have a specific binder just for treasurer, but I’ll pick up a second one if I have to,” Frystak said, “I’m very well-organized.”

He also calls for an updated budget every week, which he feels is a crucial factor in budgeting.

Other issues determined during tonight meeting include a digital entertainment service for universities. Ruckus and Eastern are green-lighting a business proposal that could lead to temporary music and movie downloads on Eastern’s campus next year.

The downloads would be available for 30 days, but would be automatically deleted after that period. The music would be free, but students would have to pay a fee for movies.

RHA approved $3,500 for executive board members to attend this year’s National Association of College and University Residence Halls conference at Berkeley University in California.

RHA members voted to not sponsor any of Eastern’s Student Government parties in the upcoming election. Members said one reason for this decision was to avoid tension between RHA and the Student Government.

RHA meets at 5 p.m. on Thursdays in the basement of Andrew’s Hall.
