Student Senate to vote on UB %5 per-semester concert fee
The University Board proposed $5 per semester concert fee will pass another hurdle Tuesday when it is voted on by the Student Senate.
If the Senate passes the proposed new fee, which will support concerts on Eastern’s campus, the proposal will continue to Shirley Stewart, interim vice president for student affairs, interim President Lou Hencken and then Eastern’s Board of Trustees at its April meeting.
UB members said they proposed the fee last fall because of rising performance costs and loss of seating in Lantz Arena. Concerts are currently funded on a zero-based budget, which means revenue from ticket sales must cover. The fee will provide about $50,000 per semester for concert costs.
Decisions will also be made on three proposed bylaw changes involving duties of the Housing Committee chair and encouraging non-senate members to serve on Senate committees.
The housing chair previously assigned on-campus senate members to attend hall council meetings and give senate reports. With the new student representation system, the housing chair and Student Relations chair will work together on assigning hall councils.
Duties of the housing chair will also be modified to work with off campus matters including starting a tenant union, maintaining the landlord registration system, updating and publishing the off-campus housing handbook and planning a housing fair in the fall.
Non-senate members who applied for senate positions but did not receive one will be encouraged to serve on senate committees.
