Homecoming position available
Applications are being sought for the position of homecoming coordinator elect, a two-year position.
Interested parties can apply in the Student Activities Office, Room 201 of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union. Homecoming Coordinator Eric Zilch, a speech communication major, said the applications are due Wednesday.
The homecoming coordinator elect assists the homecoming coordinator for the first year and then takes over the homecoming coordinator position for the second year, Zilch said. The coordinator and coordinator elect oversee planning and help carry out the events.
Anyone can apply for the job regardless of major or year, Zilch said. However, since it is a two-year position, someone graduating in a year would not be able to take the job.
“I’m looking for somebody who wants to make homecoming as diverse as possible,” Zilch said.
He said it is important to get people who are not usually involved on campus to be involved in homecoming.
Interviews for the position will take place next week and the selected individual will be notified as soon as possible, Zilch said.
The homecoming coordinator elect will begin work right away on selecting co-chairs and communicating plans with the University Board, Zilch said.
“They’re going to jump right into the position,” he said.
Co-chairs coordinate individual homecoming events, such as coronation or parade. Those individuals will be selected within a few weeks, Zilch said.
Zilch said the homecoming coordinator elect position is a really fun position and provides great experience for a job.
