Rec to feature Health Fair
Everything anyone has ever wanted to know about health will be offered at this year’s health fair, which kicks off at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. today at the Student Rec center.
The fair is sponsored by the Health Education Resource Center in collaboration with Papa John’s Pizza and the Student Recreation Center.
Approximately 40 exhibitors will set up their tables on courts one and two of the rec center, said Eric Davidson, assistant director for health education and promotion, health services.
The exhibits feature health subjects including women’s health, men’s health, substance abuse, nutrition, physical fitness and on-campus and local social service agencies, Davidson said.
“A lot of the exhibitors will have hands-on, interactive uses,” Davidson said.
The exhibitors also will offer free services, such as glucose and cholesterol testing, flexibility testing, body fat composition testing and blood pressure testing, Davidson said. The exhibitors also will distribute written literature, he said.
“This is an opportunity for students to talk with professionals from lots of areas,” Davidson said. “Many students have also said it is a good place to look for internships and get information on volunteering.”
Free Papa John’s pizza will be served during the afternoon hours, and the first 200 people at the fair will receive “goody bags,” Davidson said. The next 150 people will receive stress balls, he said.
